Out With the Old • In With the New

I launched my first photography website back in 2013. At the time, simply having a website felt like a huge accomplishment. I was proud of it, and I should have been because it represented exactly where I was in my journey.

Like most creatives starting out, I wore every hat imaginable. Photographer. Graphic designer. Web designer. Marketing department. Customer service. Bookkeeper. IT support. If something needed to be done, it was usually me figuring it out as I went. And truth be told...I STILL wear every hat! 😂

There were so many ideas I wanted to bring to life, but wanting and being able are two very different things. Sometimes it was a lack of knowledge. Sometimes it was the limitations of the platform I was using. Sometimes it was simply a lack of time. But if I'm being completely honest...most of the time it was MONEY. There's a verse in Ecclesiastes 10:19 that says, "...money answers everything." YEAH DAT! 😂 Ideas are free. Bringing them to life? That's a different story.

So I made the best of what I had, and for over a decade that website served me well. But eventually I realized something. My business had evolved. I had evolved. Yet my website was still telling an older version of my story.

Then, just a few days ago, life decided it had enough of me patching things together. I keep saying it gave me a little push, but nah...it kicked me clean off the cliff! 🤣 Technical issues forced me to stop making excuses and finally ask myself a question I'd been avoiding for years.

What if starting over isn't losing everything? What if it's finally building what I've always imagined?

That one question changed everything.

For years I had notebooks full of ideas, sketches, random lists and dreams that always seemed to end with the words, "Maybe one day." Then technology caught up. Not just websites...EVERYTHING!

The tools available today would've seemed impossible back in 2013. Artificial Intelligence is one of those tools. Not because it replaces creativity...because REAL TALK...it doesn't.

If anything, it's allowed me to spend less time fighting with the mechanics and more time creating. It helps me organize ideas, challenge my thinking, polish my writing and bring concepts to life much faster than I ever could on my own. To put it into perspective, rebuilding this new website only took me about three days. Three days! That's with almost thirty years of experience in photography, graphic design and web design behind me. Today, template-based website builders have become so powerful that you no longer need to know how to write code just to build something beautiful. That barrier has practically disappeared.

But here's the thing...the imagination still has to come from somewhere. The vision is still mine. The stories are still mine. AI simply hands me a better paintbrush.

I know there are people who hear the words "Artificial Intelligence" and immediately label anyone who uses it as lazy or uncreative. They're entitled to their opinion. Mine is different. AI is simply another tool. Just like my camera. Just like Photoshop. Just like the paintbrushes sitting in my studio. Used responsibly, it doesn't replace the artist...it empowers the artist.

Today, when I look at my new website, I don't just see new pages or a fresh design. I see over a decade of growth. I see lessons learned. I see ideas that finally escaped the notebook. And I realize something. Sometimes "Out with the old and in with the new" doesn't mean forgetting where you came from. It simply means honoring it. Because without that first website back in 2013...this one probably wouldn't exist.

So here's to new beginnings. To learning. To evolving. To embracing the unknown. And to finally building the things we've been dreaming about for years.
